Ensure Availability of Space and Supplies
In addition to ensuring that there is appropriate space for the storage and preparation of injectable medication, the infection preventionist should ensure that staff have ready access to the supplies needed to adhere to safe injection practices. Examples of necessary supplies include hand hygiene supplies, such as
alcohol-based hand rub, in the medication preparation area; a sufficient quantity of injection equipment, such as needles and syringes; alcohol wipes; and sharps containers.
